PSAI Public Policy Specialist Group Annual Workshop 2026

The PSAI Public Policy Specialist Group held its annual workshop on Friday 15 May at the National University of Ireland, Dublin, bringing together researchers from across Ireland to discuss their work on public policy and policymaking.

The workshop was organised under the auspices of the PSAI’s Public Policy Specialist Group and featured three thematic panels: health and sustainability; policymaking and policymakers; and the interaction of politics and policy.

The workshop programme included papers and presentations on diverse aspects of public policy in Ireland and Europe:

  • local government and sustainable urban mobility
  • whether parties matter for climate change mitigation policy
  • indoor environmental quality challenges in Irish social housing and how the narrative around them might be reframed
  • civil servants’ ability to recognise and act on conflicts of interest in Italy
  • how gender shapes women lobbyists’ political access
  • artificial intelligence and the risks of policy acceleration
  • the future of the EU’s Common Security and Defence Policy
  • the political drivers of inheritance tax exemptions for housing
  • and whether political finance matters for policy outcomes.
